This provides you with certain channel settings or modes. This can help to prevent takeovers, changing of topic by non-opped users, and protection of the channel from people outside the channel. ChanServ is used to enforce these channel modes automatically.
This sets the mode-lock parameter for the channel. ChanServ allows you to define certain channel modes to be always on (or off). The modes can be locked on, locked off, or not locked. The «modes» parameter is constructed exactly the same way as a /MOD command; that is, modes followed by a + are locked on, and modes followed by a - are locked off.
Examples:
SET #channel MLOCK +nt-iklps Forces modes n and t on, and modes i, k, l, p, and s off. Mode m is left free to be either on or off. SET #channel MLOCK +knst-ilmp my-key Forces modes k, n, s, and t on, and modse i, l, m, and p off. Also forces the channel password to be "my-key". SET #channel MLOCK + Removes the mode lock; all channel modes are free to be either on or off.
Available modes are:
t | Topic protection, this prevents the topic being altered by non-opped users. |
s | Secret, this hides the channel from the Whois information and channel index lists |
p | Private, same as Secret, except you can't invite yourself in via ChanServ |
n | No Messaging, prevents users from outside the channels giving /notice to the users in the channels |
m | Moderated, only allow voiced people and opped people to speak, thus preventing normal users to speak in the channel. |
l | Limit, to set a top limit of how many people may enter the channel, to stop it becomming too full |
k | Keyword, (see above example), to set a password which users have to type in order to enter the channel (/join #channelname keyword) |
i | Invite only, sets the channel to that only users who are invited (/invite nickname) may enter the channel |
R | Only nicks registered with NickServ allowed to join the channel. |
r | This can only be set by ChanServ and is automatic, it simply means the channel is registered. |
c | This mode prevents the use of control codes used to send coloured text to the channel. |
